2015 HR Derby

Posted on

The books officially closed on another great Shore Conference baseball season on Tuesday when Monmouth and Ocean County split up for the annual all star game from First Energy Park in Lakewood. Although the game ended in a 2-2 tie, there was plenty of excitement from the home run derby, mixed with some great action in the field during the nine inning game,

NJSR was there to cover all the action-

Wall’s Dan Wondrack put on a show at the home run derby, blasting seven bombs in the second round to cruise to the championship. Watch his second round performance here-

Wondrack then competed against Toms River South’s Jake Ryan for the title. After Jake hit one bomb, Wondrack needed two for the win. He hit his first relatively quickly, before stringing together a few outs. Finally, he delivered the winning shot.

Watch both here-

After his performance, Sean Martin and Ryan Wydra caught up with Dan

As for the game, a pair of Point Pleasant Boro players would make the difference for Ocean County. Quin Hornish drove in the first run of the game with a single in the second inning.

With the game tied at 2 in the top of the 8th, Point Boro’s Sean O’Connor would start a relay to catcher Nik Fraim from right field to cut off the potential go ahead run at the plate. Sean Martin caught up with O’Connor after the game-

With that score holding into the ninth, Ocean would have a chance to walk off. After loading the bases with one out, Holmdel pitcher Ashwin Jain pitched out of the jam by retiring back to back Toms River South players. After an Austin Gonella strikeout, Anthony Carfora hit a sharp ground ball to short to end the game.

Ryan Wydra talked to Jain after the game-

Gov Livingston 10, Bernards 4

The Gov. Livingston Highlanders defeated the Bernards Moutaineers 10-4 in the Group II State Championship Game. Gov Livingston improved to 28-6 on the season and Coach Chris Roof picked up his 300th career win. Dan Belfer pitched 5 and1/3 great innings, throwing 90 pitches, finishing with seven strikeouts, and only giving up three runs. Mike Falk finished with 4 RBI’s, batting  2/3 with a solo home run, a 2 run double, and a walk. John Tedesco also batted 2/3 with an RBI double, and a single in the game.

Dan Belfer got into a little trouble early, as the Mountaineers came out swinging. Two quick singles from Luke Bowerbank and Jake Cawley had Bernards threatening early in the game. Bernards had the bases loaded as Belfer would face Matt Taylor. Belfer was able to do what he has done time and time again, remain focused in a tough situation. Belfer would strike out Taylor, and the Mountaineers were left with three runners on. This was the first missed opportunity in the game for Bernards.

Gov Livingston would immediately answer back with a base hit by SS Danny Serretti. Bernards starting pitcher Kyle Oliver  walked Ethan Frohman to give the Highlanders two runners on. Oliver would struggle early in the game as he walked two batters. All of a sudden, the Highlanders were now in scoring position with the bases loaded. This would set the stage for Mike Falk to begin his monster day as he blasted a two run double to give his team a 2-0 lead. Oliver was off to a shaky start throwing 28 pitches in the first.

No runs would score in the second inning as Dan Belfer would keep Bernards in check.  Belfer pitched a 1-2-3 second inning, striking out Devin Rivera, and Ryan Deleon, then forcing another batter into a groundout. Belfer was turning a corner as his command was very strong. Bernards were having trouble figuring him out. Gov Livingston would come right back with a base hit from Brian Cranston. Kyle Oliver would walk Danny Serretti, and the Highlanders were in good position with runners on first and second. Oliver would force a flyout to end the inning, and strand the Gov Livingston runners.

Gov Livingston continued their strong defense into the third. Belfer threw a low pitch to Kyle Oliver, and JP Tantleff tried to run from first to second. The Highlanders catcher made an outstanding throw to pickoff Tantleff to give Bernards two outs. Belfer would finish the inning, striking out Oliver to pick up his fourth K of the afternoon.

Mike Falk picked up right where he left off in the first, drilling a solo home run all the way toward the Ken Frank Baseball sign to give the Highlanders a 3-0 lead. Falk was really showing how powerful he can be at the plate. The Highlanders also got a single from John Tedesco, but Kyle Oliver would work his way through the 3rd giving up only the home run.

Bernards would bring in Danny McDonnell to replace Kyle Oliver. Oliver threw 61 pitches finishing with a strikeout, giving up four hits and three runs. Unfortunatey, it would be a rough afternoon for McDonnell.

Gov Livingston would blow the game open in the fourth, with their biggest offensive surge of the afternoon.  Ryan Zucker got on first after a Bernards error on a ground ball. Brian Cranston would advance Zucker with a sacrifice bunt and the Highlanders had two runners on. Nicky Cocchia would follow that up with a single, and McDonnell would walk Danny Serietti to load the bases for Gov. Livingston. Ethan Frohman ripped an RBI single, McDonnell walked two more batters with the bases loaded, and Dan Belfer hit a sacrifice fly to score four runs in the fourth for the Highlanders. They would take their biggest lead of the game at 7-0.

However, Bernards was not ready to concede just yet. The Mountaineers were ready to make a stand in the fifth. Luke Bowerbank blasted a 2 run homer way beyond the fence to get Bernards on the board. Bowerbank had his second hit of the day after getting a single in the first. Kyle Oliver ripped a long double out into center field and the Mountaineers were showing signs of life. Bernards would get two runners on after a base hit from Carter Klein, but it was Dan Belfer who would remain in command. Belfer forced Jake Cawley into a groundball to get the final out. Gov Livingston kept Bernards from getting anymore runs in the fifth.

Bernards would cut the deficit to 7-4 in the sixth inning after an RBI double from Danny McDonnell and a sacrifice fly by Luke Bowerbank to drive in Ryan Deleon. Dan Belfer was replaced by Nicky Cocchia in the beginning of the sixth after McDonnell drove the run in. Cocchia would step up in relief, striking out JP Tantleff to end the inning. The Mountaineers were still within three runs.

Gov Livingston would begin the bottom of the 6th as if they needed it. Even though he was no longer pitching, Dan Belfer was not done yet. Belfter hit a long RBI single into right field to give the Highlanders an 8-4 lead. Belfer just kept finding ways to close the door on Bernards. The Highlanders also got consecutive 2 RBI doubles from John Tedesco and Ryan Zucker to put them in front 10-4.

Only three outs stood between Nicky Cocchia and the biggest save of his life. When you talk about having the weight of the world on your shoulders, the relief pitcher had just that and more. Bernards came out firing as Kyle Oliver hit an infield single, but it was Cocchia who would shine in the brightest moment. With one runner on, Cocchia would strike out Carter Klein, and Jake Cawley would flyout. Bernards were down to their final out, and Matt Taylor was up to give the Mountaineers their last chance. With a 2-2 pitch count, Cocchia was able to get Taylor looking, and the game was over!!

GL photo 7

Lots of fans stormed the field at Ken Frank Stadium to congratulate the Gov Livingston Highlanders on winning the Group II State Championship. Many people made the trip all the way down from Somerset County to support these kids. The best teams are able to execute on the biggest stage, and the Highlanders were able to do just that today. Every time Bernards tried to get back in the game, Gov Livingston was just one step ahead. What an outstanding job by Coach Chris Roof and his staff, and the players who were able to make the big plays. Dan Belfer picked up the biggest win of his high school career, and Nicky Cocchia was able to protect that with the save.

Millburn small group

Millburn 11, Williamstown 3

The Millburn Millers defeated the Williamstown Braves 11-3 to win the Group IV State Championships. Millburn scored 11 runs on 11 hits in the game. Kevin Czepalski pitched six innings for the Millers, finishing with five strikeouts, giving up six hits and two runs. Ryan Adelman finished 2/4 with 2 RBI’s. Max Birner also batted 2/3 with a 2 RBI double in the game.

Millburn got on the board in the second inning as Max Birner ripped an RBI single into left field. Nick Minter also hit a single to put Milburn in scoring position with runners on first and third. Ryan Adelman picked up an RBI on a the first of two squeeze plays, along with an E1 to put Millburn on top 2-0. Milburn continued their offensive ways in the second getting a single from Jordan Brisgel. Richie Schiekofer would hit a sacrifice fly to drive in another run. Millburn had a 3-0 lead in the second.

Millburn bat 2

Millburn would add another run in the third after getting an RBI single from Max Jacobs who got to second on the go ahead. A sacrifice fly from Max Birner would again put the Millers in scoring position, but it was Tyler Apt that would fight hard to get Williamstown out of the inning. Apt picked up his second strikeout of the day on Nick Minter to get the Braves defense off the field.

Williamstown would come out swinging in the bottom of the third as Nick D’Alessandro blasted a lead off double on the second pitch to get momentum in their favor. Ross Micka followed that up with a long sacrifice fly that was nearly a home run and the Braves were on the board, trailing Millburn 4-1.

Millburn would have their best inning of the game, getting four runs on three hits in the fourth. Williamstown got another squeeze play after getting consecutive hits from Ryan Adelman, Richie Schiekofer, and Johnny Serruto which made it 5-1. This led Williamstown to go to the bullpen. Coach Joe Smith went with Sophomore Max Keegan. A Max Jacobs sacrifice fly, and Max Kirner getting to first after an error would make it 7-1. Keegan would strike out Mike Garawitz to end the inning as Millburn took an 8-1 lead.

Millburn bat 3

Sophomore Max Keegan looked very impressive in the later stages of the game. Keegan pitched a 1-2-3 fifth inning striking out Nick Minter and Ryan Garawitz for a total of 3 K’s. Keegan is going to be a strong pitcher for Williamstown in the future.

Millburn would score two more runs in the sixth after a 2 RBi double by Max Birner. Max Keegan found a way out of the sixth as he forced Mike Garawitz into a pop up fly. Keegan was fighting hard to keep the Braves in the game.

Williamstown would have their best inning in the bottom of the sixth. Devon Jeffries came off the bench to rip a single into left field to get the crowd back into it. Tyler Apt also hit a single to put two runners on for the Braves. Steve Hawk hit his third straight single to load the bases. This would set the stage for Tommy Gibson to drive in Jeffries with a sacrifice fly. It was 10-2 Millburn after six.

Millburn scored another run in the bottom of the seventh after a Nick Minter double set up a Ryan Adelman sacrifice fly to drive another run in. Millburn continued to get runners on after a single from Richie Schiekofer and a double from Johnny Serruto. Milburn was in scoring position again, but the Braves left them stranded after Kevin Czapelski flied out.

The Millers were three outs away from winning the Group IV State Championship. Coach Brian Chapman replaced Kevin Czapelski with Max Jacobs in the seventh. This would be Jacob’s save opportunity with a lot of runs to help him. However, the Braves were not done yet. Anthony Rocabaldo hit a line drive single into left field to get the Williamstown offense going. Nick D’Alessandro also fought back with a single of his own. The Braves were in a good position with two runners on and no outs. This gave Dan Mussili an opportunity, and he made good on it, driving in a run on a single. The Millburn lead was at 11-3. Jacobs would force a flyout, and Millburn would pick off the runner trying to steal at third to seal the game. Max Jacobs had secured the win. The Millburn Millers were the 2015 Group IV State Champions.

Millburn celebrationMillburn celebration 2

The Millers finished the season 26-6 and had passed their final test, on their way to a state championship. Millburn relied on fundamentals and small ball to earn their victory on Saturday afternoon. Millburn used squeeze plays, and stolen bases to get multiple runners on to drive in as many runs as possible. Kevin Czapelski pitched a solid game and did not give up many runs. Ryan Adelman, Max Birner, Nick Minter, and Johnny Serruto were all there to help lead the team to victory.

This game finishes an outstanding run for the South Jersey Group IV Champion Williamstown Braves. Williamstown were one of the most improved teams in New Jersey. Monroe Twp will miss this senior class as they took the community on one of the greatest runs in history.  This program has a bright future with Coach Joe Smith at the helm, and Assistants Greg Lopez and JR Tolbert working with him.

CBA Wins Second Straight MCT Over Wall

Posted on

By Ryan Wydra

The Colts of CBA have dominated Monmouth County as of late. Their ace Luca Dalatri has dominated hitters his entire career. Riding his pitching, as well as timely offense, the Colts would survive a tremendous effort from Wall on Tuesday to win the county for the second year in a row- 5-4

Wall 0 0 0 2 2 0 0 CBA 0 1 2 0 1 0 1
Wall 0 0 0 2 2 0 0
CBA 0 1 2 0 1 0 1

The Colts had the hot bats early in the game. CBA got big hits from Brandon Martorano and Dalatri early on. Dalatri had 2 RBI’s off a single and a double, as CBA cruised to a 3-0 lead after the 3rd inning. Many teams have been in this position when facing Dalatri. Wall was going to be in for a tough challenge.

Wall would get back into the game as they got the offense rolling in the 4th. The Knights got singles from Dan Wondrack and Ryan Orender. However, Dalatri would make it tough by striking out the next two batters. Wall would get a 2 RBI double from Nick Maclejewski to pull them within a run, trailing 3-2.

The 5th inning would be another opportunity for Wall to take over this game. Wall would immediately load the bases on Dalatri after getting singles from Nick Martinez and Brendan Barcas.  Dalatri would respond again by showing his ability to work out of a jam, taking down two more batters. Wall would take a 4-3 lead after Zach Wilson hit a 2 RBI single.

In a situation where Wall could have broken the game open, Dalatri was able to persevere and maintain his focus. No one can ever question the mental toughness of Dalatri, a North Carolina commit. He was put to the test in the first five innings, and stranded a total of 5 Crimson Knights in scoring position.

CBA would strike back in the bottom of the 5th, after getting a double from Will Morgan. Wall pitcher Ryan Orender walked Brandon Martorano. This set the stage for Dalatri to get his third big hit of the night. He blasted a game tying RBI double all the way to the back wall. The game was deadlocked at 4 and anybody’s contest.

While CBA was threatening, Wall would simply not go away. The Crimson Knights played tremendous defense the entire night. Ryan Orender would pick up his 5th strikeout. Nick Martinez also made an amazing grab on a long shot in left field. Shane Turk was sure he was going to send it out, but Martinez was in the right position to make one of the best plays of the night.

The two pitchers were dueling it out the entire night. Both Dalatri and Orender gave up no runs in the 6th.They showed tremendous adversity, battling all the way to the end. The two stars clearly had only one goal, and this was walking out of First Energy Park with a championship.

The 7th inning was a war right down to the end. Wall had the first chance, and Dalatri responded like the champion that he is, bringing down 2 batters. He would finish the night with a total of 12 strikeouts.

CBA would have a chance to walk off in the seventh. Will Morgan singled into right field, and the Colts were one big hit away. Brandon Martorano stepped up to the plate, and ripped a walk off double to win the game. CBA would successfully defend their title, and win their second consecutive Monmouth County Championship.

Brandon Martorano finished the game 3/3 with an RBI single, double, and the walk off winning double to seal the deal for the Colts. Luca Dalatri threw a complete game with 116 pitches, striking out 12. What was even more impressive, was Dalatri’s ability to fight through adversity. No matter what Wall threw at him, he was able to stay calm, and do whatever he needed to do for his team to win.

Luca Dalatri was named MCT MVP after the win
Luca Dalatri was named MCT MVP after the win

Dalatri was also quite the weapon on offense, finishing 3/3 with 2 RBI doubles and an RBI single.

Ryan Orender pitched all 7 innings for Wall, throwing 107 pitches. He was able to keep his team in the game, striking out 6, and only giving up 4 runs. Zach Wilson finished 2/3 with 2 singles and 2 RBI’s. Nick Maclejewski was 1/3 with a 2 RBI double.

Both teams will be back in full swing tomorrow as the Shore Conference Tournament continues. Wall will face Ocean County Champion Jackson Memorial, and CBA will face Middletown South. Jackson Memorial and Middletown South have both been hot teams as of late. CBA and Wall will look to advance into the SCT Final Four.

NJSR will have coverage of these SCT games right here and on Twitter @SCHoops1, @ShoreSportsNJ and @jimrosa519.

Maroon And White Camp Preview

Posted on Updated on

Maroon 2Maroon 1 Ryan Wydra (@SCHoops1)

The Maroon and White Girls Basketball Camp will be held in Holmdel on July 28-30.  The camp is normally run at Red Bank Regional High School, but due to construction, it will be in Holmdel this year. It is put together by Red Bank Regional head coach James Young. James Young always does a fantastic job organizing the event, and getting the best teams together.

The camp gives players the opportunity to get some much-needed work over the Summer.  The Summer is always an important time for many of the young players. With the AAU season ending, players are continuing to take their game to a new level.

Another great feature is that the Camp has NCAA certification  Besides having the opportunity to work on their game, players will also have a chance to impress several college coaches. Colleges from all different levels will be in attendance. This gives players one more chance to make an impression before the end of the heavy recruiting period. This is a major motivating factor for each girl to be at their best, and it provides great competition for everyone to see.

Every year Maroon and White features the best of the Shore Conference. This gives everyone an early look at the talent that we will see during the season. While there will always be some changes between now and December, this still gives everyone a chance to see how much players have improved.

The camp also features some the other teams around the state. They will get a chance to compete against the best conference in the New Jersey. Now we’ll talk a look at some of the best teams that will lead this showcase-

(See below for full schedule!)

ST JOHN VIANNEY will be on everyone’s radar in 2015-16

SJV state Kelly Campbell driving Dawn Karpell brings her St John Vianney Lancers to Holmdel to showcase their talent.  SJV is loaded and ready to make a tremendous run for the 2015-16 season. Karpell returns eight seniors from a team that went 26-4, won the Non Public A State Championship, and made it to the TOC Final Four.

The Lancers are led by senior guard and DePaul commit Kelly Campbell who averaged 14.8 points per game in 2015. Campbell really took her game to another level becoming much more of a scoring threat in her sophomore season. It was also her vision and leadership that paced this team during their tremendous run. The Lancers also have junior center Kimi Evans. Evans is as powerful in the paint as they come. She will definitely be on everyone’s radar this year with her 6’3″ frame. She could potentially be the best Center in the state.Gigi Caponegro is the other big at 6’0″. Caponegro is not only quite the rebounder, but she has really improved her inside shooting. The SJV lineup also includes Senior guard Kellie Crouch and Junior wing Courtney Dobrzynski.

The SJV bench is anchored by Senior St Peters commit Zoe Pero, Tina LeBron, and Vanessa Pinho. Pero comes with a very strong inside game and work ethic. Zoe could start on a number of teams in this league. LeBron and Pinho are as clutch as they come beyond the arc. Look for both of them to continue to be strong in that role.

This SJV team has so much talent and can hurt you in so many different ways. Will this be the year that SJV finally takes both the SCT and TOC Championships? One thing is for sure, every opponent will have the Lancers marked on their schedule. They will see the best from every opponent. If this team ever had their best shot, this is definitely it!! Look for the Lancers to get off to a fast start in 2015-16.

MANASQUAN will look to defend their TOC Championship

Manasquan TOC Dara and Galvan

No matter who we rave about this Summer, to be the best, you have to beat the champs. Manasquan will go into the 2015-16 season looking to defend their TOC Championship.  The Warriors will be in for a tall order after graduating Notre Dame Commit, All-American, and Player of the Year Marina Mabrey, but they are more than ready to make a serious run. Everyone who has followed Lisa Kukoda over the past three years knows that she always finds a way to compete with anyone. Manasquan has become quite a defensive team since she took over the program in 2012-13.

Younger sister Dara Mabrey has all the tools to enjoy a very successful sophomore season. We all know she can play lock down defense on anyone, but she also has more than enough offensive ability. With Marina gone, this will be Dara’s team, and she will be expected to score a lot more.

Manasquan will return three out of five starters with Dara, point guard Stella Clark, and center Victoria Galvan. Stella Clark has always been known for her excellent floor vision and play making ability. She has also really improved her outside shooting. Junior Victoria Galvan at 6’1″ was a really important part of Manasquan’s success in the second half of the season. Galvan demonstrated her power and dominance averaging double figures in points and rebounds throughout the playoffs. She will look to take her game to the next level and be one of the best.

The other two starting spots will likely be occupied by senior Gillian Black, and Freshman newcomer Faith Masonius. Faith Masonius was one of the best eighth graders around, and comes to the Varsity level with a lot of upside. At 6’0″, Masonius can play inside or outside, and will be a major contributor down the stretch.

The Manasquan bench will rely on the always dependable Addie Masonius, and will also look to get quality minutes from Sophomores Carly Geissler and Emma McMenaman.

RUMSON FAIR HAVEN will look to give SJV some real competition

RFH N Morris One thing we can all say about Rumson Fair Haven, is that this team has never lacked the talent. Longtime coach George Sourlis has a history of attracting the best players into his program. While RFH has always had the talent, chemistry has always been the biggest question mark. Can such a talented group of girls work together the way they should? Will the decision making on the floor be sound?  Will the shot selection be there? Defensive mechanics will also be the key in big games.

RFH is led by Senior forward Stephanie Lesko who will look to man the inside. Lesko can be a force at 6’1″, and also has quite the shooting range. Lesko will be joined in the paint by Junior Hannah Scanlan. Scanlan provided some much needed depth off the bench in 2015. This year she will make the transition to lead the front court for the Bulldogs. The guards will be led by Senior and Holy Cross commit Nicole Morris. Morris is quick off the dribble, makes good decisions, and has good shooting range. The other guard positions will likely be handled by Sydney Sabino, and Freshman star Tori Hyduke. Hyduke enjoyed an excellent freshman year, and really played a great game in the sectional final against Manasquan. Hyduke has the potential to be one of the best guards at the Shore. Recent transfer Christina Antoniokakis could also be in the mix for a starting position. Antoniokakis had a very solid freshman year at Holmdel, starting every game. Antoniokakis is a player with a lot of speed, and passing ability. This gives Coach Sourlis a lot of options at the guard positions.

RFH also has quite the depth off the bench. Lindsey Morris has enjoyed a great Summer, improving her game quite a bit. Katie Foos provided some quality minutes off the bench in 2015. It was Foos three point shot that sent the sectional final into overtime. Look for Coach Sourlis to also get excellent production from Meghan Volker. Rumson definitely has all the pieces to give SJV a very hard time in Class A Central this year.

MIDDLETOWN SOUTH will look to win Group III Again

Midd South Karcz

Tom Brennan will bring his squad into Maroon and White for the first time. Middletown South had a very successful 2014-15 season finishing with a 26-6 record. They won the school’s first ever Group III State Championship. They also had an impressive run in the SCT making it all the way to the Final Four.

The Eagles are led by multi talented superstar, and recent Loyola commit, Stephanie Karcz. Karcz led Middletown South averaging 16.3 point per game.  Karcz can slash to the basket like no other, fight for garbage buckets, and play tenacious defense.

The team also returns Junior Haley Dalonzo. Dalonzo knows how to dominate the paint, and fight for every rebound. She also provides a second option when it comes to scoring in the lane. Dalonzo is one of the toughest players at the Shore. Middletown South also returns Junior forward Alexandra Balsamo who was huge for the Eagles in the playoffs.  Balsamo is a post player who can also handle the ball well for her size.  Senior guard Julia Valkos will round up the lineup for Middletown South. Valkos has good vision, and knows when to take her opportunities.

Could this be the year that Middletown South can finally reach the SCT Final?  Will they make a serious run in the TOC? Tom Brennan is a very smart and dynamic coach. He knows how to get the most from the pieces that he has together. I expect Stephanie Karcz to be a Player of the Year candidate in 2015.  Middletown South will once again rely on defense and rebounding to dominate games.  If they can just get a little more scoring from the offense, look out for this team in the upcoming season!

RED BANK CATHOLIC –  A team that’s ready to take the next step

Caverly RBC When the 2014-15 season began, longtime RBC coach Joe Montano knew it would be a year of growing pains.  RBC would only feature one Senior in Loyola Commit Alex Barazotti. The majority of the team was made up of freshmen and sophomores. Everyone also knew this would be a class that would give the program some of its best potential in years. Despite being such a young squad, the team would finish with a 22-6 record. They also won a share of the Class B North Championship, and won two playoff games in the State Tournament.

RBC returns 11 out of 12 players. RBC has quite the backcourt coming back in 2015-16. Rose Caverly is the point guard.  She has a very good all around skill set, and was really thrown in the fire after an injury to Tia Montague.  Montague will return this year after missing last season with an ACL tear. She is a very quick guard with a good knowledge of the offense. She also has great shooting range from the outside. Josie Larkins will also be a wing. Larkins is very strong and can drive inside. She can also hit the three beyond the arc.

The main bigs for RBC will be Sophomore forward Katie Rice, and Junior center Maureen Coakley. Rice is a post player that can control the offensive and defensive glass, and play outstanding defense. Coakley is powerful underneath the hoop and should be even stronger this season.

The Caseys have a lot of depth off the bench. Sophomore Haley Moore has really improved her game this Summer. Look for Moore to get a lot more minutes this season. RBC will also get great contribution from Caitlin Carroll, Gillian Hansen, and Jennifer Bagnell.

Can the Caseys challenge SJV for a sectional title in Non Public A? Joe Montano is ready to compete, and it’s time to see the babies grow up.

NEWCOMERS TO MAROON AND WHITE LOOKING TO MAKE A STATEMENT

SOUTHERN REGIONAL – Head Coach Tom Bucci will take the Rams into his second full season at the helm. Southern were sucessful in 2014-15, finishing with a 20-6 record, and winning the Class A South Championship.

The Rams will be led by Junior forward Gabby Davis who will unfortuantely miss the camp because of surgery. Davis will be more than ready to go by opening night in December. Southern also returns Senior guards Bianca Nicolini and Morgan Henderson. Nicolini took a big step forward this past season becoming a very consistent scorer. Henderson was always reliable with good shooting range, and excellent defense.

Bucci is looking to take his program to the next level by getting some work against the best teams around. Southern will open up the camp with defending TOC Champion Manasquan, and will also play SJV, Middletown South, and RBC.

TOMS RIVER NORTH – The Mariners will make their first appearence at the Maroon and White Camp.  Toms River North had a good 2014-15 season, finishing with a record of 17-8. They were also the runner up to the Class A South Title.

TRN will be rebuilding this year after losing Seniors Christina Ribaudo, Marissa Dusheck, and Sam Farley, but they have a talented Freshman class coming in. Brielle Bisogno may just be one of the best point guards coming into the league this year. Bisogno has led the Toms River Starz AAU team which has made tremendous progress over the past two years. The Starz have played some of the best competition in the state. Bisogno may find a way into the starting lineup early on.

TRN will also return forward Ashley Tutazer who will help provide leadership for the youngsters. The Mariners are in a good spot as they will attempt to play some of the best competition in this camp.  Keep your eye on this team throughout the season.
